Difference between 2010 and 2016 iApp

I'm performing a TMG to F5 migration on Exchange 2010. Very soon after that they will be migrating to Exchange 2016. I'm trying to convince management not to use MS Exchange 2010 iApp when they upgrade to 2016 but to use the 2016 iApp.

What is the major differences between both iApps and what are the potential drawbacks if the 2010 iApp is used to proxy 2016 CAS servers?

Note: I will be using both LTM, ASM and APM

  • the question is more what is the difference between Exchange 2010 and 2016. the iApp is tailored to work with the corresponding version of Exchange. so if you use the Exchange 2010 iApp with Exchange 2016 servers then you wont be using the Exchange 2016 features correctly because the iApp isn't providing the configuration for that.

an extensive resource on difference can be found here:

issues i can think of are for example on the SSO to OWA, the use of true RPC in 2010 which is gone in 2016, problem with o365 hybrid.
