Configure VIP to block new connections when it hits a bandwidth limit

Hey Gurus,

I would like to know, if there is a way to configure a vip to block all new connections, when the thruput(bandwidth) has hit a limit say 500 mbps. I understand rate classes, but they are shaping mechanisms, (i.e) there is no dynamic connection limits, it just limits the bw consumtion to 500mbps no matter its serving 10 connections or even 1000 connections at a reduced QoS.

I am looking at ways to dynamically turnoff new connections to vip, when it hits a bw limit and turn it back ON when the utilization goes down.

One of the ideas,

Are any internal bw counters (SNMP) which gives the current limit, which i can check via irules before accepting new connections ?

Can someone pl enlighten me on this :)

-Thanks,

Srikanth
